The Saratov State Agrarian University named after N.I. Vavilov

The Saratov State Agrarian University named after N.I. Vavilov is one of the largest and leading educational and scientific establishments, training experts for the Agribusiness of the Saratov Region, the Volga Region, and the Russian Federation.

The University ranks very high among the 100 best institutes of higher education in Russia, and ranks fifth among Russian agricultural institutions.

In 2002 French Association of Industry Encouragement (Societe d’Encouragement pour l’Industrie Nationale – SPI) marked the University with high award – gold medal for stability and dynamic development.

In 2007 letter of commendation of German Federal Ministry of Foodstuff, Agriculture and protection of consumers was awarded to the Saratov State Agrarian University for the special contribution to the practical training of the students in Germany.

Nine departments, two branches of the University, seven representative offices, lyceum, twenty three lyceum classes at the base of rural secondary schools, twenty offices and services, publishing house and museums educate specialists in various fields of agriculture.

More than twenty thousand students, including ten thousand students of full-time tuition are trained by 1200 highly skilled teachers, which are the best representatives of science. There are more than 160 Doctors of Science, Professors and more than 690 Candidates of Sciences, including associate professors.

The library of the University is one of the largest and the oldest high school agricultural libraries of the Volga region. It is a member of Russian Library Association. It has 1.5 million volumes.

The University has a unique museum complex:

memorial study museum of N.I. Vavilov, Museum of history of the Saratov State Agrarian University named after N.I. Vavilov.

natural-scientific museums: entomological and zoological museum, pathoanatomical museum, parasitology museum, Biology museum, Veterinary and sanitary museum.

Cultural and sporting life

Study at the University is not only knowledge acquiring and becoming perfect proficient, but also of meaningful communication with people of the same age. It is a time of highest possible demonstration of one’s talents and creative abilities.
You can find outlets for your creative abilities in student clubs and societies, such as the vocal circle (solo, choir), the choreographic circle (ballroom dances, pop dances, and folk dances) and literary circle. Student theatre performances, comedy clubs of sharp and funny characters and the student musical-group concerts sell out whenever they perform.
Modern multifunction sport centre including swimming-pool helps young people stay in good physical condition. Students of the University may be engaged in the various sections, such as swimming, judo, unarmed self-defense, darts, mini-football, basketball, handball, eurhythmics, chess, land-navigation, skiing and weight lifting. Following the results of the last years the student picked team was the best among other teams of the Saratov high schools more than once.
